What is God?
by mindfield ini have yet to find a personal set of beliefs that will satisfy my mind, but one thing i am starting to get sure of is that there exists no "christian" god.
the reasons for that belief aren't many, but proof that god exists isn't that plentiful either.
i use the bible as proof god doesn't exist as it depicts it... others use it to prove he does, in fact, exist.

The bible says God is love.
If that is true and not just a characteristic...How would you describe it? Live it, name it, teach it?
How could you explain it to some one who has never experienced it?
How do you know that if you think you have experienced love was it the ultimate love? Is there more to it than just your experience of it?
Now if hate is the opposite how would you describe it, live it, name
it...etc.
For a parent teaching a child, or even 1 human to another, would you try to put these deep concepts into language they could understand? Would you use examples that would describe situations that they could understand?
Some people actually do feel nothing when they see someone else hurt. How would societies (even primative) teach these people to "feel"..just the tip of the iceberg.

Trinty
by encourager inhey i've been reading the magazine "should you believe in the trinity" - very well laid out and i know its been around for years.. i'm struggling with this whole issue and have looked at some of the quotes and they don't seem to match the actual quotes of the early church fathers.
mainly the one by tertullian which reads as follows from the magazine.
tertullian, who died about 230 c.e., taught the supremacy of god.

This booklet (and others) is dishonest & very deceptive & a clever method to proclaim their very own doctrine and if history gets ignored or changed in the process well, so be it.
Some don't even bother checking....
Especially if there is a quote with ... in the middle, the ... usually represent the part of the quote they don't want you to read and more often taken entirely out of context. So many quoted don't even believe in the bible or God, so of course they have no support for the trinity idea. As well alot of quotes are taken from works that actually support it but the sentence they choose is either them quoting someone else or talking about the difficulty people have understanding the concept.
The misquotes are placed & figure that if they explain the quote their way, top it off with a scripture then everything is OK. I especially don't like the scriptures that are also used out of context here.
and there is no mention of Arius (230-336) or marcion, sabellism, gnosticism, all the great heresies WAY before the so called Constantine thing. Their "expert expose" on they way history unfolded leaves out many main characters and misrepresents others.
So many of the early writers Irenaeus (130-200), Tertullian (160-220) who was 1st to use "the word" in descriptions of Jesus, Origen (185-254), justin martyr, clement, had much to say
The WT claims the early conspiracy theory, then ignores what theories were fought against & why.
Yet they use the "light gets brighter" in their own defence not even allowing such luxury to the apostles, or to paulgotta go, parents just stopped by

Sorry, I don't know how to hightlight a quote
YK, you said
_________________________________________________________
So, the foretold death and resurrection of Jehovah's Messiah was part of religious thought from before the world was established outside of the Garden of Eden. Since the prophecy directly involved the soon-to-be-developing seed of the serpent, that being the invisible demonic forces aligned with the Devil, they would naturally be intrigued ...
___________________________________________________I'm a little confused. This sounds like Everything was already fixed and prophesized from the beginning!
Is this true? -

that brochure is a joke.
I wasted many months looking up all the quotes. So knock yourself out.
This doesn't prove or disprove the trinity, it shows to what deceptive measures the WT will go to don the sheep's clothing as long as they can. The more ancient & obscure the quote, the longer it'll take to look up and the less chance the average, "more mature" christian would even bother.Libre - very nice description. This is the reason why culture after culture, religion after religion has screwed up in their attempt to attach a label, name or "teachable" idea to this concept of "God"
Then as soon as you put words to it something is wrong, that is because the words to describe God do not exist in any language.
Thats why so many people have so many different yet similar ideas about who/what God is.
Maybe someday. -

Proof the WT is God's Org?
by mindfield ini recall a conversation i once had with my jw uncle about the many doctrinal flip-flops, the blood issue, and how some in the cong.
treated me like @w#$@ even though i was never baptized.. funny, the only thing he could defend himself with was "well, do you know of any other religion that insists on god's name?
" i didn't know of any, so i coudn't really say yes.

isn't what the JUDGE did, become part of that cleansing thing that Jehovah did with his org? Isn't this procedure supposed to happen again soon? Thats why its ok for some chafe [sp?] to mix with the pure golden wheat? -

PUTTING THINGS INTO PERSPECTIVE:
If anyone is intrigued by these other stories that sound so familiar, the author Joseph Campbell gives good insight into WHY mankind has developed these "mysteries".
Also Karen Armstrong gives a good historical acct in the "History of God" and "The Battle for God" -

Excellent sentence libre:
Only man has fear, so man needs these beliefs to conquer his fear and get to a place of love.
Exploring the concept of God should lead you to this place. Man has so often substituted & confused "the way" with rules that they think should steer the unthinking/unexploring one, or the "lazy".
Think of how difficult it would be to practice perfect, unselfish love.
Think of what you would have to do to & for all those who were getting in the way of you practicing your perfect love.

This web site, your comments as evidence
by joelbear inin the case of silent lambs versus the christian congregation of jehovah's witnesses.. did you ever think that discussing these cases here accompanied by your vitriole against all things watchtower could be used to:.
1. show that ex jehovahs witnesses harbor such a hatred for the watchtower society that they will say anything to discredit them.. 2. show that there is a network of ex jehovahs witnesses that may have helped to create these abuse accusations in the alledged victims' minds or at least have encouraged them, even unwittingly, to exaggerate their claims.. i guarantee you that the watchtower society has documented every word anyone here has said, especially on this issue.
i can easily see a defense team using it to, if not exonerate accused molesters and the watchtower society, to at least create a reasonable doubt regarding their guilt.. if your hatred of the watchtower causes you to join in irrational behavior and accusations, you have to contemplate the fact that you may be adding to the future grief of any real victims.. i present this for your thoughtful consideration.. as always, i wish all here peace.. joel
